O.S. Hawkins, David Dockery announced as joint interim leadership of Southwestern Seminary
Following a special-called meeting of the Board of Trustees of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Chairman Danny Roberts today announced that trustees have invited O.S. Hawkins and David S. Dockery to provide joint leadership to the seminary during the interim period. Dockery will serve as interim president, while Hawkins will serve as senior advisor and ambassador-at-large.
Weekly prayer opportunity available for SWBTS, TBC
Each Monday at 11:45 a.m., beginning on October 3, faculty, staff, students, and any others are invited to gather in the Rotunda of the Memorial Building for a time of prayer, Scripture reflection, and submission to God’s leading.
Dockery encourages campus to pray Psalm 90:17
Southwestern Seminary and Texas Baptist College Interim President David S. Dockery has asked faculty, staff, and students to pray Psalm 90:17 as the theme verse for this academic year. Will you join others on Seminary Hill in praying daily for God’s favor on our campus and that the Lord will confirm the works of our hands? Food Hall to be closed for breakfast this week
The Food Hall will be closed for breakfast during Fall Reading Days, beginning Oct. 3. Regular hours resume Oct. 8. The Coffee House hours will remain as normal.
Oct. 12 writing workshop to discuss writing a book review
The Center for Writing Excellence will host a workshop from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Oct. 12 in Mathena Hall 219. The topic for the workshop is “Writing a SWBTS Book Review.”
Fort Worth Hall residents to compete in Mario Kart Tournament
Calling all Fort Worth Hall residents! Do you have what it takes to be the fastest kart racer in the Res Hall? Come prove your Mario Kart skills in a real life go-kart tournament from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Oct. 14 at Route 377 Go Karts. Prizes will be awarded for the fastest racer and the best costume.
Fall Festival to feature fun and food
Southwestern Seminary and Texas Baptist College students are invited to enjoy a festive evening of games, food, a pumpkin patch, and inflatables in front of the B.H. Carroll Memorial Building. The event will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 21. To RSVP, click here. Among the other events that evening will be:

Land Center Lectures to examine “What Does It Mean to be Human?” Oct. 25-26
C. Ben Mitchell, who is the retired Graves Chair of Moral Philosophy at Union University and a leading evangelical ethicist, will be the featured speaker for the Land Center Lectures, to be held Oct. 25-26 in the Seelig Banquet room of the Naylor Student Center.
The topic of discussion is “What does it mean to be human?” The lecture series is free of charge, but reservations are required for the Oct. 26 lunch. For more information, click here.
Interest meeting to be held Oct. 25 and 27 for spring Revive the Nation evangelism initiative
A Revive the Nation (RTN) student interest meeting will be held immediately after chapel at 11:00 a.m. Oct. 25 and 27. Matt Queen and Hannah LaFavor will meet on the left of the stage in MacGorman Chapel.
The RTN initiative equips and sends students and faculty to share the Gospel by serving churches across the nation during spring break. Students will have an opportunity to gain practical ministry experience, build ministry connections, receive field mentoring, and participate in community outreach in partnership with local churches. Southwestern pays the travel expenses, and the host church provides lodging and meals.
Class credit is available for student participants. Students who have already earned credit for the class are encouraged to participate. Those who cannot attend meeting should email rtn@swbts.edu. For more information, click here.

Annual preaching workshop is today
The School of Theology of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary is hosting a one-day Preaching Workshop today. Designed for pastors, staff, and lay leaders, the workshop featuring Chris S. Osborne, Juan R. Sánchez, Justin Wainscott, Daniel C. Dickard, and Matthew F. McKellar will equip pastors with the tools for the development of text-driven sermons. For more information, click here.
Registration for Fall B 8-week courses is open
Registration is open for Fall B 8-week courses, which begin Oct. 10. These courses allow students to complete a full semester of class credit in eight weeks. For more information, click here.
International Mission Board candidate consultant to be on campus Oct. 17 – 21
Joel Sutton, an International Mission Board (IMB) candidate consultant, will be on campus Oct. 17 – 21 to visit with those who want to know more about IMB missions. He will also host a pathways meeting at 6:00 p.m., Oct. 18, in Mathena 214. The pathways meeting is for students who want to know more about ways to serve with the IMB.

Nov. 1 is deadline for New York mission trip
The deadline for the spring break mission trip to New York City is Nov. 1. Ladies of Southwestern Seminary and Texas Baptist College are welcomed to participate in a week-long mission trip to the most populated city in the United States. With the rapidly changing culture, methods, and tools of technology, Matthew Waymack, a second-year master of divinity in worship leadership student at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, said that one of the best tools Southwestern students can hold firmly in their hands are those that will never change.
Barber reminds Southwestern community not to grow weary in doing good during chapel message
Keep doing what is good even when ministry is tiring, preached Bart Barber, president of the Southern Baptist Convention and pastor of First Baptist Church of Farmersville, Texas, during his Sept. 29 chapel message at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Texas Baptist College.
Iorg urges Southwestern, TBC community to seek Jesus’s peace, stay on mission
A “pastoral word” about Jesus’s peace and a challenge to remain on mission was offered by Jeff P. Iorg, president of Gateway Seminary, during the Sept. 27 chapel service at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Texas Baptist College, the first held since the Sept. 22 resignation of former President Adam W. Greenway.
Students prevail over faculty again in annual softball game filled with fellowship, fun
Adding to their second consecutive loss, the Southwestern Seminary and Texas Baptist College faculty team fell to the student team 9-1 in an upset that was neither stunning nor hard fought during the annual Student vs. Faculty Softball Game held Sept. 22 at the Recreation and Aerobics Center’s field.
Dockery named to Union University’s bicentennial hall of honor
A “humbled and grateful” David S. Dockery, distinguished professor of theology and director of the Dockery Center for Global Evangelical Theology at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, was inducted into Union University’s bicentennial hall of honor during events held Sept. 23-24 at the Jackson, Tennessee, campus.
