Registration for Fall B 8-week courses is open

Registration is open for Fall B 8-week courses, which begin Oct. 10. These courses allow students to complete a full semester of class credit in  eight weeks. For more information, click here.


Women’s Study Night to be held Sept. 20

The Women’s Center, located in Price Hall, will host a study night from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., Sept. 20.


Workshop to feature writing better research papers

The Center for Writing Excellence is hosting a workshop titled, “Five Tips to Writing Better Research Papers,” 10:00-11:00 a.m., Sept. 28 in Mathena 219. No preregistration is required. 


Reminders

Flu shots available at SWBTS clinic

All students, faculty, and staff are eligible for a flu shot. Shots are administered at the clinic and are free for those with insurance, otherwise it is $20. For an appointment, call 817-921-8880.


TBC Worldview Night at Sagemont in Houston

The TBC Worldview Night conference will be from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., Sept. 22, at Sagemont Church in Houston. Speakers from Texas Baptist College will address questions young people ask in an increasingly post-Christian world, who are bombarded by messages that are contrary to the way of Jesus. Annual faculty vs. student softball game rescheduled to Sept. 22

The professors are more ready than ever to take back their title with the student’s first-ever win last year. All students, staff, faculty, and their families are invited to join in a fun night of friendly competition, free food from our faculty grill masters, giveaways, and a game at the Recreation and Aerobics Center softball field that will forever go down in history.

The student vs. student game begins at 4:30 p.m., Sept. 22. The faculty vs. student game follows at 5:30 p.m.

If you would like to play in the student vs. student softball game before the faculty game, sign-up forms are available in the Student Life Office, the Coffee House, and the RAC.


Sip and See event to be held for all ladies Sept. 23

The fall Sip and See event is a campus-wide baby shower, and all ladies are invited to attend 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Sept. 23. The Women’s Center, located in Price Hall, will offer coffee and tea, and ladies may shop through the donations at the come-and-go event.


South Asia mission trip send-off dinner is Sept. 26

The World Missions Center will be sending 10 students and one professor to do evangelism among unreached people groups in South Asia. If you are friends or in the church family of these participants, please join the WMC in Seelig Banquet Hall in the Naylor Student Center for a send-off dinner and time of prayer from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., Sept. 26.

Sacred piano concert set for Sept. 27

A sacred piano concert titled “Journey through Psalms” will be held at 7:00 p.m., Sept. 27 in the Reynolds Auditorium, Cowden Hall. The concert will feature the talents of Nathan Burggraff, associate professor of music theory at Southwestern, and is free and open to the public.

Sea parte del evento inaugural de las Conferencias Teología Lifeway en Seminario Southwestern para el “Pastor-Teólogos.” La conferencia incluirá plenarias, conferencias individuales, panel de discusión, almuerzo, y mucho más. Be a part of the inaugural Lifeway Theology Conference at Southwestern Seminary for “Pastor-Theologians.” The conference includes plenary sessions, individual conferences, a panel discussion, lunch, and much more. Women are invited to attend the Saturday morning conference on counseling and the main plenary sessions. This conference will be offered completely in Spanish.

Southwestern to host annual preaching workshop

The School of Theology of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary will host a one-day Preaching Workshop on October 3. Designed for pastors, staff, and lay leaders, the workshop featuring Chris S. Osborne, Juan R. Sánchez, Justin Wainscott, Daniel C. Dickard, and Matthew F. McKellar will equip pastor with the tools for the development of text-driven sermons. For more information, click here.

LOOKING BACK: Southwestern former student honored by Queen Elizabeth

Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary has a unique connection between a late former student and Queen Elizabeth II of England, who passed away Sept. 8 after reigning for 70 years over the United Kingdom and its Commonwealth. Josephine Scaggs, a Southwestern student from 1936-39, was honored with an award from the monarch on February 7, 1956.

Going deep: Alumnus says churches should empower children to do ministry

“Going Deep” is not just a book Clint May has written on children growing with God, it also has been his driving vision for 20 years for children to share their Christian faith through hands-on experience in mission trips, evangelism, and other ministries.

Pratt encourages students to proclaim the Gospel during Global Missions Week chapel

God’s people must share the Gospel with the world, preached Zane Pratt, vice president for global training at the International Mission Board, during a September 13 chapel message at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Texas Baptist College.
