Dr. Shatzer serves as associate professor of Christian ethics. In addition to his teaching service at Southwestern, Dr. Shatzer serves as assistant provost, associate dean, and associate professor of theological studies at Union University.

Dr. Shatzer is the author of two books, Transhumanism and the Image of God: Today’s Technology and the Future of Christian Discipleship (IVP Academic, 2019) and A Spreading and Abiding Hope: A Vision of Evangelical Theopolitics (Cascade, 2015). He has also written journal articles for the following publications, The Southwestern Journal of Theology, Ethics & Medicine, Themelios, The New Bioethics, Pro Ecclesia, and the Journal of Religion, Media and Digital Culture. He is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society and regularly presents at the national conference.

Dr. Shatzer and his family attend West Jackson Baptist Church in Jackson Tennessee.
