Scholarships for Current Missionaries

Full tuition scholarships are available for children of current IMB missionaries and returning Journeyman missionaries. Scholarships of up to half of tuition are available for IMB missionaries currently serving in the field. Individual requirements vary by scholarship, so please read carefully!

2+2 Program

FPO Training International Learning Center (ILC) – 100% tuition for 3 credit hours
Southwestern currently offers a scholarship for missionaries in the 2+2 program (MDiv in ICP) that covers 100% tuition for the 3 hours required for FPO training at the International Learning Center in Virginia.
Requirements:
- 2+2 Applicants must provide a verification of current field service from the IMB.
- 2+2 Applicants must be enrolled in the IMB FPO training course and provide verification of enrollment.
- 2+2 Applicants must be students at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary who have completed at least 47 hours at SWBTS.

2+2 Field Service
If you have completed your on-campus studies portion of the 2+2 program and are currently serving on the field as a 2+2 missionary, you are eligible to apply for the Current Missionary Scholarship. Please see below.

Returning Journeyman

100% tuition for 1st year of study – 50% tuition for years 2-3 of study
As a part of Southwestern’s covenant to train spiritual leaders who will share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with all the world, we offer applicants returning from a 24-month assignment with the IMB the following scholarship opportunity:
Requirements:
- Returning Journeyman applicants must complete 24 months of service with the IMB and provide an official verification of service from the IMB.
- Returning Journeymen not previously enrolled in a degree-seeking program at SWBTS must enroll at Southwestern within three years of field service in order to be eligible for the scholarship.
- The student shall complete the application and submit the verification of Journeyman status prior to the first term of enrollment.
- All Applicants (Returning Journeyman) must be citizens of the United States.
- All Applicants must maintain a 3.0 GPA, take courses on-campus, and remain in good standing with the seminary.
Scholarship Details:
- All elements of this scholarship (Returning Journeyman) must be considered on-campus classes to be eligible for scholarship coverage.
- The Returning Journeyman scholarship provides a tuition scholarship (no fees) for up to 15 credit hours per fall and spring semesters only.
- The student will need to complete an application for financial aid every year.
- This scholarship may not be combined with another SWBTS scholarship.
- Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.
- The Missions scholarship covers only tuition (no fees) and is applied after other scholarships and/or benefits.
- The application deadline for the 2022-2023 academic year is July 1st. If you are an incoming student for the fall 2022, the deadline is August 30th. If you are an incoming student for the spring 2023, the deadline is January 31st.

Current Missionaries

Overview:
- Master’s Studies – 50% tuition – Up to 3 years of study
- PhD Studies – 30% tuition – Up to 4 years of study
- DMin Studies – 20% tuition – Up to 4 years of study
Requirements
- Applicants must currently be on assignment with the IMB or NAMB.
- Applicants must apply and submit verification of employment, with dates of service, annually.*
- Applicant must be a citizen of the United States.
- Applicant must be a degree-seeking student.
- Applicant must maintain a 3.0 GPA and be in good standing with the seminary.
- If the applicant resigns from the IMB or NAMB, his/her scholarship will be forfeited.
Scholarship Details
- The scholarship shall cover online tuition (no fees) up to a maximum of 15 hours per semester.
- Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.
- This scholarship may not be combined with another SWBTS scholarship.
- The student shall complete the application and submit the verification of employment prior to the first term of enrollment.
- The Missions scholarship covers only tuition and is applied after other scholarships and/or benefits.
- The application deadline for the 2022-2023 academic year is July 1st. If you are an incoming student for the fall 2022, the deadline is August 30th. If you are an incoming student for the spring 2023, the deadline is January 31st.
